Earlier this week, Hudson Regional Hospital and Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli presented the 2020 Hero Awards to honor 80 Hudson County businesses and individuals for their support and services to their communities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I am so proud of and grateful to the community of Secaucus for stepping up to help each other during this unprecedented time of need,” Gonnelli said.
The recipients ranged from large companies like Xchange at Secaucus Junction LLC and MedShare to local retailers and restaurants, including Walmart and Giovanni’s Italian Deli, who provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and dinner for hospital staff and residents.
“On behalf of Hudson Regional Hospital’s first responders, doctors, and nurses, we appreciate how our community came together to make it possible for us to continue providing quality healthcare to our patients,” said Dr. Nizar Kifaieh, President and CEO of Hudson Regional Hospital.
As the designated Hudson County COVID-19 testing site, HRH worked with county and Secaucus officials to screen more than 15,000 residents, first responders, and emergency workers.
The hospital treated 300 individuals with COVID-19. HRH constructed a COVID-19 treatment area separate from the facility’s normal operations to continue to address the healthcare needs of its surrounding community safely while fighting the pandemic.
The number of new COVID-19 cases in Hudson County and HRH continues to decrease, in part due to the overwhelming support from the Secaucus and Hudson County individuals and businesses that have allowed doctors and nurses to concentrate on their patients, according to HRH.
