People in the community now have access to another source of valuable health information. The EMS team at Hudson Regional Hospital is delivering talks on a variety of health topics.
On March 28th and 29th, speakers from Hudson Regional Hospital will deliver talks on Bleeding Control (B-Con) in response to Stop the Bleed, a national campaign designed by the White House as a way to teach citizens more about controlling bleeding in an emergency situation. Uncontrolled bleeding is the most common cause of preventable trauma death in the US. After an accident, a variety of factors can lead to a delay between the time an accident occurs and the arrival of medical help on the scene. The B-Con course being offered equips attendees with the knowledge they need to be able to provide immediate aid to an injured person until first responders arrive to take over.
The Importance of B-Con Courses
Most people receive basic first-aid training at some point during their lives, or even on several different occasions. However, it’s less common for these courses to focus on B-Con, a specific category of first-aid skills. These skills involve knowing how to take action in a bleeding emergency when a person has suffered a traumatic injury. It is critical to control bleeding quickly. In fact, in some situations, it can mean the difference between the injured person living or dying. Learning and staying up-to-date on B- Con skills may save your life or the life of someone near you. Educating yourself on the proper techniques to use in a worst-case scenario can help you avoid life-threatening situations. These courses are also important for your family and employees – the more people who know how to control bleeding in an emergency, the safer everyone in the community is.
EMTs, firefighters, and other emergency responders are typically taught these fundamental skills, and they regularly use them to save lives. However, even more, lives can potentially be saved by arming the public with this knowledge. That’s why Hudson Regional Hospital has elected to get involved with the Stop the Bleed campaign and offer educational talks in the community. They hope to increase public awareness as well as access to bleed control kits, just as CPR skills and defibrillators have become more widely available in recent years.

Hudson Regional Hospital believes that everyone can be a hero. B-Con information is something that everyone should have access to – not just healthcare workers. In situations such as active shooter events, terror attacks, or natural disasters, it can be difficult for emergency personnel to get to the scene before it turns fatal for the injured. That means that when everyone possesses B-Con skills, the effects of these horrifying events and tragic accidents can be minimized.
