Bio
Daniel Shein, M.D. has clinical expertise in orthopaedic surgery of the spine, hip, and knee. He specializes in spine and scoliosis surgery, and in performing muscle-sparing total hip and total knee replacement surgery.
In 2005, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan. His studies focused on human physiology and neuroscience.
He then spent a year at the University of Michigan’s Cancer Center publishing his research on the mechanisms that cause breast and prostate cancer to metastasize to bone.
In 2010, Dr. Shein earned his medical degree from the New York State/American program of Tel-Aviv University in Israel.
In 2015, he then completed his Orthopaedic Surgery internship and residency at Albert Einstein College Medicine affiliate hospitals Montefiore Medical Center and Jacobi Medical Center. In his final year, he served as chief resident. As a resident, he co-authored an article on knee biomechanics. He also presented research on adjacent level disease of the cervical spine.
Throughout his orthopaedic training, Dr. Shein gained an appreciation for the important relationship between the spine, hips, and knees. This led him to pursue subspecialty training in all three of these regions in order to best treat conditions where they overlap.
In 2016, he completed a fellowship in Orthopaedic Spine & Scoliosis Surgery at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY. This year was spent immersed in the study and treatment of common and complex spine disorders that include adult and pediatric deformity, degenerative conditions of the adult spine, spinal trauma, and the treatment of spinal tumors. He also worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and NY Presbyterian Weill Cornell Hospital during that time.
Dr. Shein served as chief of his spine fellowship class. He gave lectures to Weill Cornell medical students on spine anatomy, pathology, and surgery. He also led discussion groups, teaching the art of physical examination of the spine and musculoskeletal system. His fellowship research focused on the complicated biomechanical relationship between the spine, pelvis, hips, knees, and ankles. He has presented this work at both national and international conferences. His research has also investigated the complications associated with cervical spine surgery and has explored the etiology of spine infections. He has published work on lumbar disk replacements.
In 2017, Dr. Shein completed an Adult Hip & Knee Replacement Surgery fellowship at the Hedley Orthopaedic Institute in Phoenix, AZ. Under the tutelage of world-renowned hip and knee replacement surgeon, Dr. Anthony K. Hedley, he spent the year immersed in the management of common and complex disorders of the hip and knee. This included the treatment of many forms of destructive arthritis, and the reconstruction of failed joint replacements (I.E. revision joint replacement surgery).
He was extensively trained to perform muscle-sparing total hip and knee replacement surgery, and became certified in performing robotic total joint replacement surgery using MAKOplasty technology.
In 2017, Dr. Shein joined his father in private practice. Together, they comprehensively treat patients with a wide variety of disorders of the spine, hips, and knees.
Their unique approach looks beyond each of these regions as individual entities and focuses on balancing the entire skeleton to optimize patient performance.
Dr. Shein continuously researches innovative techniques and the newest technology in order to provide the highest-quality care, outcomes, and satisfaction to his patients.
Dr. Shein prides himself on delivering 100% personalized patient treatment plans that are both comprehensive and unique to each patient’s individual needs.
