Bio
Dr. Martin Perez graduated from Harvard Medical School-M.D. Dr. Perez then completed his General Surgery Internship and residency at New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center. Surgical Critical Care and Trauma fellow from 1997-1999 at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Perez began his career at Stony Brook University in New York. He was there for two years before joining the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey for 7 years. Dr. Perez became the associate director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Perez came to Hackensack in 2008 as the Medical Director of the SICU. Dr. Perez has kept his faculty affiliation from UMDNJ, Rutgers for the last 11 or 12 years. Dr. Perez chose surgery because it appeared to offer definitive procedural care for illness as opposed to medical treatment, which oftentimes is palliative surgery. Dr. Perez was always strongly interested in surgical infection in medical school. Dr. Perez chose trauma because it continued his interest in surgical infection. Dr. Perez always enjoyed taking care of the sickest patients, which is in abundance in the trauma and critical care field. Provides general trauma care, surgical critical care, general surgery, and COVID-19 critical care.
