Dr. Michael Russonella is a highly skilled and experienced, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist. Using the latest state-of-the-art procedures, he helps patients with acute and long-term injuries and conditions. This includes arthroscopies to the knee, ankle, hip, shoulder, and elbow, along with total knee and hip replacement and trauma surgery. He also performs and utilizes some of the latest cutting edge “non-operative techniques to assist his patients including Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), bone marrow concentrates injections. He is the CEO of North Jersey Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Institute in Clifton and Nutley, NJ.
He and the physicians at North Jersey Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Institute are specialists in orthopaedics, pain management, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and total body wellness. In addition to his work at North Jersey Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Institute, Dr. Russonella acts as a team physician for several local high schools in the area, as well as a consultant for numerous other local high schools and youth sports programs. He truly enjoys helping his patients get back to peak performance level.
With a passion for the orthopaedics and sports medicine field, he completed his undergraduate degree, as well as numerous postgraduate courses in exercised physiology, at Montclair State University in Upper Montclair, New Jersey. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Lake Erie, Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, he completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Peninsula Hospital Center in Far Rockaway, New York, and at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York. He then had the opportunity to complete a fellowship in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, which is an institute well known for treating world-class athletes.
Specializing in total body wellness, the doctor is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons, as week as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons. Additionally, he is a proud member of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedics, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
